Sanem Altaylı (b. 1978, Ankara) is an artist based in Ankara, Türkiye. The structural way of thinking shaped by her engineering background becomes visible in her paintings through the division of surfaces and the layered construction of space.

Her works explore fragmented perspectives created through glass, mirrors, and architectural surfaces, approaching the city not as a direct representation but as an experience of perception that is fractured and multiplied.

She began her painting practice in 2010 at workshops affiliated with the “Smithsonian Institution” in Washington, D.C. Between 2018 and 2022, she studied at the  Art Students League of New York, working in the studios of artists Ricky Mujica, Garin Baker, Mary Beth McKenzie, James Little, and Jas Knight.

In 2022, she was selected from among thousands of applicants to have her works displayed for three weeks on approximately 2,000 digital billboards across New York City’s five boroughs, becoming the first Turkish artist to be featured in the project. In the same year, her solo exhibition, “Distractions,” was presented at the Turkevi Center in New York.

In 2025, her solo exhibition “Grey” was held at Galeri Soyut in Ankara. The artist continues her practice in Ankara.
